About Green Volunteers Network
:: Our Mission
The Green Volunteers Network was started in November 1997 to increase public participation in environmental protection by providing a range of hands-on activities and programmes to turn awareness into action. It attracts all sectors of the community, from students to retirees. Since its inauguration, it has grown from 50 to 900 strong and it still expanding.
:: Our Programmes
Our programmes and activities include:
- Nature Appreciation through treks, walks and being trained as a nature guide
- Road-shows and Green fairs to reach out to the general public
- skills training like terrarium-making, Origami, grasshopper weaving and paper making
- talks on enviro-related topics held at our office
- reforestation and park/swamps cleanups activities
- Being a Green ambassador in your estate to promote recycling
- Giving school talks on recycling
- Eco-Green camps
- Green Volunteers Day
- Fund raising activities like our Green Flag Day
- projects leader for events/projects - learn how to coordinate and run events
:: SEC & GVN
The Green Volunteers Network is the volunteer arm of the Singapore Environment Council. Established in 1995, the Council is the umbrella organisation for green groups in Singapore. The work of the council is basically housed in 4 closely related committees. They are namely
Community Relations, Education, Industry as well as Research & publications.
